Corporatisation of State Water

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Currently, State Water Authorities (SWA) do not require an operating license but after the NWS Act is enforced all SWAs must register within a period of 3 months from the date of transition. In addition, all SWAs must state an intent to migrate to the new structure within one year or a new date to be extended. Permission given to SWAs to operate will cease should they fail to transition within the determined period. Under the new licensing regime, the license period is unlimited but will be subject to renewal (period according to rules) and annual fees. The corporatisation of SWAs is also being done in stages beginning in 2006 with the corporatisation of Syarikat Air Melaka Berhad on 1 July 2006. The corporatisation of the Negeri Sembilan Water Supply Department and Perak Water Board are being implemented by the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister's Department.
