Government Mulls Extending Use Of LED Bulbs Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) -- The government is mulling over extending the use of LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs for road lighting nationwide, depending on the outcome of a pilot project in the Klang Valley, the Dewan Negara was told Tuesday.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin said LED lights were energy-saving, last longer (up to 50,000 hours), environmental-friendly and had a high level of lighting efficiency.

Malaysia Hopes For 10-15 Per Cent Electric Vehicles In Market By 2020

PUTRAJAYA, March 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia hopes to achieve between 10-15 per cent electric vehicles (EV) in the market by 2020, said Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui.

He said the government had initiated the Fleet Test Vehicles (FTV)Programme together with Proton, to determine the requirements for developing and testing technology, as well as related infrastructure and promoting the EV.

In this respect he said, 120 EV's will be on the road in Putrajaya and Cyberjaya by year-end.

Low Carbon Cities Framework And Assessment System For Cities In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and Malaysian Green Technology Corporation have developed two systems to facilitate the development of low carbon cities in Malaysia.

The ministry's senior undersecretary for the green technology sector, Rosli Abdullah said the first, which was the Low Carbon Cities Framework (LCCF), served as a guide to be used on pertinent areas (elements) that contribute to the reduction of green house gas (GHG) emissions.

PETALING JAYA, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- More incentives are necessary to increase investments in the green technology industry to solve current difficulties in obtaining financial assistance for projects, says the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry.

Its minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin said green technology ventures are still rather unattractive investment prospects, despite the strength of the green movement around the world and this continues to be among the challenges for Malaysia, going forward.
